    What you need to know:

Polypropylene (PP), a synthetic resin built up by the polymerization of propylene.

Polypropylene is often called the “steel” of the plastic industry because of the various ways in which it can be modified or customized to best serve a particular purpose.

PP is one of those most versatile polymers available with applications, both as plastic and as fibre in virtually all of the plastics end-use markets: for example, for employment in industrial and household textiles.
It is moulded or extruded into many plastic products in which toughness, flexibility, lightweight, and heat resistance are required.

PP can also be polymerized with ethylene to produce an elastic ethylene-propylene copolymer. It is among the cheapest plastics available today, and It has the lowest density among commodity plastics.

    Application:

What Are the Different Types of Polypropylene :

    Homopolymers

Is the most widely utilized general purpose grade polymer.

It can be used in a variety of different applications.

    Random Copolymers

    Are further divided into:

    • Block copolymers – contains a higher ethene content (between 5 and 15%). It has co-monomer units arranged in a regular pattern (or blocks). The regular pattern makes the thermoplastic tougher and less brittle than the random co-polymer. These polymers are suitable for applications requiring high strength, such as industrial usages.
    • Random copolymers – incorporate co-monomer units arranged randomly (as distinct from discrete blocks) along the polypropylene long chain molecule. Such polymers typically containing 1-7% ethylene are selected where a lower melting point, more flexibility and enhanced clarity are advantageous, making them suitable for applications requiring transparency and for products requiring an excellent appearance.
